Why Atmananda?

When you train at Atmananda, you’re not learning a generic yoga curriculum — you’re learning a method built specifically to keep you and your future students safe, effective, and confident. Founder Jhon Tamayo created the Atmananda Yoga Sequence in 1994 after seeing how many yoga practices led to preventable injury, and built his entire approach around alignment first. That means as a trainee, you won’t just memorize poses — you’ll learn to read your own body, understand the mechanics behind every movement, and know exactly how to adjust and protect both yourself and your future students from injury. This is the difference between reciting a sequence and truly owning your practice.

You’ll be trained in a method that blends Iyengar, Hatha, and Ashtanga traditions into one dynamic Vinyasa flow — giving you a versatile, well-rounded foundation you can teach anywhere, to any level of student. It’s a method that’s proven itself far beyond one studio: taught across seven countries and to more than 2,000 students worldwide, so you’re stepping into a lineage with real depth, not a one-off certification. You’ll even train with insights from the Atmananda Yoga Mat™, Jhon’s own mathematically designed alignment tool, giving you a concrete, teachable framework for helping future students find proper form fast.

Beyond the physical practice, Atmananda means “self” (Atma) plus “bliss” (Ananda) — the path to self-realization that only you can walk, and that we’re here to guide you through. You’ll leave this training not just certified, but transformed: more connected to your own body, your own teaching voice, and a community that will treat you like family long after graduation.
